Introduction of new Intelligent Algorithms module – Intelligent Irrigation

At GreenTech Amsterdam, Hoogendoorn will introduce a new module within the Intelligent Algorithms software: Intelligent Irrigation. This development builds on the IIVO climate computer and supports growers in automating key processes with minimal input.

The Intelligent Algorithms software enables growers to set a few essential setpoints and bandwidths, after which the system proactively manages climate control—taking into account current conditions and weather forecasts. The new Intelligent Irrigation module adds a data-driven approach to irrigation, based on the plant’s water uptake and steering goals.

Instead of relying on manual adjustments, the software analyses historical water use to recognize patterns in plant behavior. It then adapts irrigation timing and volume throughout the day, using real-time weather data and climate conditions. This helps maintain optimal substrate EC and dryback for oxygenation, supporting consistent crop development and steering.

My name is Frans Goud. Grower at BASF / Nunhems. I have been working in horticulture since I was 16. Started working and learning at a cucumber nursery. Here I grew into a manager. After more than 20 years, I started working as an assistant cultivation manager at a tomato nursery. And for the last 8 years I have been working at BASF/Nunhems as (senior technician) cultivation manager tomato / cucumber. For the past 6 years, we at Nunhems have been closely involved in data-driven growing and we have been using the new Intelligent Algorithms in the IIVO climate computer.
