Aranet, a brand of SAF Tehnika, is launching the Light Spectrum sensor at GreenTech Amsterdam 2025. The device delivers real-time spectral data across the 350 to 950 nanometer range and provides significantly broader analysis than standard PAR sensors. At the same event, Ledgnd will unveil the integration of the new Light Spectrum sensor into the MyLedgnd platform, offering growers intuitive data visualization and control capabilities. This seamless integration allows users to optimize their lighting strategies based on detailed insights into both light intensity and color spectrum.
Research has shown that each crop requires its own unique light color mix. With this sensor, growers gain insight into the actual light their crops are receiving. Using the data from the sensor and the further processing within the MyLedgnd platform, growers can fine-tune their lighting strategy. With rising energy prices and a growing drive for sustainability, more growers are switching to LED lighting. While this transition requires an initial investment, it also results in significant energy savings. However, simply installing LED lights is not enough to achieve optimal results. MyLedgnd offers growers a practical and user-friendly way to visualize their greenhouse data. It provides a clear picture of different climate factors and their impact on crops, enabling growers to optimize their cultivation strategy accordingly.

A Better Light Mix
To gain the right insights, data is essential. And to collect data, sensors are needed. Until now, most growers have relied on PAR sensors, which only measure the 400–700 nm range. The new Light Spectrum sensor, developed in close collaboration between Aranet and Ledgnd, offers significantly broader coverage (350-950 nm) and breaks down the amount of light per color in real time. Studies suggest that crops develop better when provided with a targeted light spectrum. A better mix of light results in improved crop growth, higher yields, and better quality. The newly developed sensor provides insight into exactly how much light of each color reaches the plant, empowering growers to fine-tune their lighting strategies with precision. Improved productivity isn’t the only advantage. Growers can also dim lighting more precisely throughout the day to save energy. Additionally, they can extend the lifespan of their LED fixtures, as certain color chips last longer than others. By managing this actively, the lifespan of the lighting system can be extended.

Wireless and Real-Time
The sensor takes measurements at intervals of up to every minute and sends data to the base station using long-range wireless technology. The data can be analyzed via Aranet Cloud and can also be directly used by MyLedgnd and/or the climate computer. Combined with plant feedback sensors, MyLedgnd offers a complete picture of how crops respond to light and climate conditions. Moreover, the new sensor is affordably priced, making it accessible to many more growers. Sensor battery life is up to several years, and it can be placed anywhere in the greenhouse for optimal measurements.

The light spectrum sensor measures the full light spectrum in micromol- and watt m²/s per color. Integrated with MyLedgnd, it provides real-time insights into light intensity and distribution. By combining this data with climate, crop, and energy metrics in MyLedgnd, growers can (dynamically) control LED lighting, improve photosynthetic efficiency, extend LED lifespan, reduce energy use, and make smarter, data-driven decisions for optimal greenhouse performance.
