Content programme, innovations and networking opportunities ruled the show floor

The 2016 edition of GreenTech concluded three busy days marked by the buzz of business. Visitors came from across the globe to see new technologies and find out what is new and upcoming in the industry.

The Breeders Pavilion and information-packed sessions at the Theatres were just two features not to be missed at the event, taking place at RAI Amsterdam. At the opening on the first day, Priva was crowned Overall Winner of the Innovation Award with their Deleafing Robot. The GreenTech Innovation Award represents worldwide recognition in horticulture technology.

Visitors spent more time at the show floor and that resulted in a vibrant exhibition with over 185,000 business meetings. We were pleased with every, and I do mean every aspect at GreenTech says Greg Hendrick, president of Foody Vertical Farming from the US, “The layout, arrangements and displays of the stands allowed visitors to easily locate the products they were looking for and the clientele was truly wordwide. We look forward to GreenTech 2018.

The success of GreenTech was the great atmosphere and buzz on the floor.” says Mariska Dreschler, Manager GreenTech at RAI Amsterdam. “From the Award Ceremony on the opening day of the show to the high degree of knowledge exchange at the complementary sessions programme and the innovations in the InnovationLAB to the networking fun at the various social gatherings, GreenTech was the place to be. Now the work starts for GreenTech 2018, we look forward to it!

More international

Over three days a total attendance of 9,721 professionals from 113 countries visited the show (97 in 2014). The international share of attendees also keeps growing. This time 52% of the visitors came from outside the Netherlands. The largest growth came from Asia and the USA.

Innovations

Innovations are reason number one for visitors to come to the show. There was an innovation route with 73 products and the Innovation Award together with the InnovationLAB puts the innovations in an even brighter spotlight. Priva won the Overall GreenTech Innovation Award and the international jury awarded two nominations with a Category Award. ISO Plantsampler by ISO group won in the Category Production, HortiMaX-Go! by Ridder Hortimax Group won in the Category Automation Solutions.

The registration fees for the Innovation Award in the amount 7,300 euros were donated to the African Medical & Research Foundation (AMREF) Flying Doctors, and their project in Kilindi, Tanzania, providing accessible water and sanitary facilities for the community.

Full steam ahead

An unprecedented 56% of exhibitors, representing over 200 companies signed up for the 2018 edition before the show closed. A fourth hall has been added to the floor plan, to allow for expansion. The next edition of GreenTech will be held 12-13-14 June 2018 and kick off with the GreenTech Summit the day before on June 11.

My team is literally bursting with ideas to improve and expand on the next edition”, says Dreschler, ‘This has been an incredible learning curve for 2018, but we will also look at expanding to other regions and continue to investigate frequency in close cooperation with the market and at the advice of our Exhibition Committee.

Community

The launch of the Community also picked up speed, with over 1,000 members. Companies use the GreenTech Online Community to showcase their most interesting content amongst industry enthusiasts and experts in order to raise awareness, gain feedback and start discussions. Members have access to inspiring content and also the opportunity to put their company in the spotlight.

To give the whole horticulture industry a voice the GreenTech Community Award was introduced. This new prize enables horticulture professionals to place the spotlight on their favourite innovation. The first winner of the Greentech Online Community Award is Connected Screening by Hoogendoorn and Svensson.
