How do you expect this current crisis will change your sector for the long term?
It further highlights the importance of food security and controlled food production in both new and mature markets. There is a greater need for controlling who and what touches a plant and more measures to ensure crop health and resilience. A more challenging economic environment means the need for greater efficiency, automation and sustainability.
What is the silver lining for either your company or the sector?
Consumers and retailers will be paying more attention to food safety and security. Improved greenhouse hygiene will become a prerequisite, as demanded by the supply chain and their underwriters. Higher standards of water quality and water treatment throughout the greenhouse process will be required to meet these needs. Moleaer’s nanobubble systems are designed to be easily retrofitted into any irrigation system to improve water quality standards at the source and throughout the greenhouse.
How could robotics/automation support human workers during a crisis such as this?
Robotics, automation and remote monitoring and control can help workers in these situations. Social distancing may become a new norm that periodically reappears, and employees will need the ability to run operations without physically being present. We have integrated PLC remote access capabilities and dissolved oxygen sensors for remote monitoring in our nanobubble generators. We are in the process of integrating remote controls for turning the units off and on, along with automated mobile text and email notifications to provide equipment operation updates. In the future we foresee the integration of artificial intelligence to automate equipment operation.
