GreenTech Amsterdam will take place on 13, 14 and 15 June. Just like every year, the GreenTech Innovation & Concept Awards will be presented to the most promising products and concepts in the international greenhouse horticulture. Together with the new jury chairman Jolanda Heistek, we are looking ahead to the competition and asked the winners of 2022 what it brought them.

'Our success has skyrocketed after winning the award’

Liselotte de Vries (Chairman Innovation Awards Jury 2022, TU Delft AgTech Institute) explains: “...we received submissions with a wide variety, which is exciting to see after the past challenging years. Last year, the jury looked at biological-, production- and digitization technologies. A selection of these are nominated for the Innovation- and Concept award.”

Mexico and the United States are important horticultural countries with enormous market potential. However, to meet the wishes and expectations of retailers and consumers, growers still need to take steps to further professionalize. Two growers from Mexico and one from the US talk about the developments that they believe will have the most impact in the coming years.

Horticultural products are increasingly grown specifically because of their ingredients or special characteristics. The beauty and health industry plays an important role in this. And by moving traditional outdoor products into the greenhouse, they not only guarantee a safe environment for the production, but also get a more sustainable product with a higher quality.

Our global horticulture industry can produce happy food and healthy ornamental plants more economically and sustainably by getting to know the physiology of its crops. This was the take-home message given to visitors of GreenTech Amsterdam’s Crop Theatre on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, during a presentation aptly named “How to produce happy plants and healthy flowers.”

Technology will play a crucial role in international greenhouse horticulture in the coming years. But for those innovative tools to be successful, a different mindset is also needed of the people who create those innovations and the people who have to work with them. That was one of the important messages that emerged during GreenTech Live & Online.
